Royal Air Force (RAF)

The last two years has seen Abbeydale in close co-operation with RAF bases designing and delivering a range of management and leadership programmes for civilian and military personnel. To date over a 150 delegates have completed courses that have been accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM). Several programmes have been run jointly by Abbeydale trainers and RAF instructors and have involved delegates in a mixture of classroom training and outdoor activities.

The programmes have been very well received “The feedback from the students confirms that they been able to relate what they have learnt on the course to their working environment.” Senior Training & Development Officer RAF Linton–on-Ouse.

“I could easily relate what was taught in the course to experiences I have had in the RAF and put them into context.” Delegate RAF Leeming

Universities

It has been a busy few months for Abbeydale providing a range of programmes for managers and staff of universities. Staff of the University of Sheffield Estates Department recently completed an ILM Team Leading programme. It ran over three months and all 22 delegates qualified for the ILM Award in Team Leading.
We have now enrolled over 30 managers from the University Accommodation and Campus Services department on First Line Manager and Middle Manager programmes to be completed early in 2009.

The University of Liverpool have engaged us to deliver a range of short management programmes including, Dealing with Difficult Behaviour, Chairing Committees and Report Writing. An ILM Award in Leadership programme was designed and delivered for managers of the University of Teesside Students Union.

Health and safety courses have been provided for staff of Royal Holloway University of London, Aston University and the University of York.

Assertiveness

Building self-confidence and assertiveness is probably a lot easier than you think. 'Non-assertive' people (in other words 'normal people') do not generally want to transform into being excessively dominant people. When most people talk about wanting to be more assertive, what they usually really mean is:

  • 'How can I become more able to resist the pressure and dominance of excessively dominant people?'
  • 'How can I stand up to bullies (or one bully in particular)?'
  • And also, 'How can I exert a little more control in situations that are important to me?'
This course is designed to build self-confidence, it helps identify the blocks to assertive behaviour, examines styles of communication and helps you say what you mean and mean what you say.

It can be tailored to meet your organisation’s needs and can be delivered in one or two days dependant on your requirements.

Chairing Meetings

Holding meetings is an increasingly expensive activity, hence the need to run meetings well. Badly run meetings waste time, money, resources, and are worse than having no meetings at all.

The need to run effective meetings is more intense than ever in modern times, given ever-increasing pressures on people's time, and the fact that people are often based in different locations.

To ensure meetings run smoothly involves pre-meeting planning and a positive and confident approach by the chairperson.

This course focuses on the preparation required before the meeting, the conduct of the chairperson during the meeting and importance of the post meeting action.

It can be tailored to meet your organisation’s needs and can be delivered in a half or one day session dependant on your requirements.

Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) an introduction

NLP or Neuro-Linguistic Programming is about noticing patterns in the language we use; the non-verbal communication and behaviour displayed; and how our brain processes and understands this information.

This course will look at the basics of NLP and how it can help you to communicate exquisitely with anyone. This is beneficial clearly both in your professional work as well as general life situations. A fun and interactive course that will give you a taster of what NLP can do for you. It will give you practical strategies that will have a powerful effect and create life changing skills.

This one-day course is for anyone who would like to be able to communicate effectively in any situation. It is ideal for managers wanting to develop their communication skills with their team, peers and / or manager.
